Research on final film

At first I wanted to film my tattoo machine but we had a few hiccups along the way so I had to change my mind and think of something else to do and fast because I only had one week to do this in. My sister was talking to me and was telling me to film her smoking shisha, it was a good idea yet I only had a couple of days to go. I just went with it because there was nothing else I could think of. My little cousin wanted to join in as well, just for the smoke really. How I wanted to end the film was have heaps of smoke in the air, like the film is fading to a finish.

Structure: I wanted to have a storyline where it starts off setting the hookah up, like having every step to put everything together like for a person who doesn't know how too, but only short footage so I could have the fun part at the end where they blow out the smoke. 

Theme: The place I could only film is at home, so I want it to be in the garage. Since my sister brang it up I could only think it would be possible to film there. 

I found this film on Vimeo it was legit with every close up on the smoke which really stands out on the whole film, I like this film a lot but I couldn't get the exact same effects in my footage but it's ok.

Research Memory One

My 1st - A Ferrari Tale.

This video that I found is about a guy who got some people to film himself  in a Ferrari 308 GTB. It's about his memory being able to drive that car, the video was taken in many places, shots off the motorway, in the park, on the highway.

what I like about this film is the storyline, it starts off where it shows close ups on the car from every inch of the main parts of the ferrari, inside and out then cuts into him jumping in the car. For my short memory film I only want to use the parts where it's close up on parts of the car like how he's done it.

Analysis

120 Seconds by Roger Dorig

What I like about this film is what he does for a living, making belts, hammering nails to dent metal to make a design on top of it is pretty cool and out of it. I always wondered how they do it, I think now a days they use machines to do the job because the feel of this film is like an olden type theme of what they use to do back then. I like the shots that where used, close up on his hands. The sound of the hammer hitting the nail really goes with the music in the background. I like how it's pretty straight forward, everything went with each other. 

What I didn't like about this film is the fact it's too short. It's like a trailer, showing what he does, that's probably why it's called 120 seconds. There was not much I didn't like about this film but yeah.

The Photo Man

This film is about a man named Mark Kologi, who buys and sells more than three millions of forgotten photos of random strangers that he has never meet nor seen. This was directed and produced by Ben Kitnick.

Theme: Where he's interviewed is mostly in his garage, were all his collection is. The other scenery is marketing on the streets where it shows heaps of people checking out his photo collection.

Structure: The film structure was like he was interviewed in his garage where it shows all his collections of his photos. Close ups on his hands with Mark holding or showing old photographs. Views of the city, showing where he showcases his images in marketings.

What I like about this film is how they used the camera angles close up like for example 00:00-01:00 to 00:00-01:09 where it show how close the camera is the the photos he shows, I think it's pretty cool. Another one is at 00:00-03:08 to 00:00-03:10 it's only two seconds but I like how depth of field is shallow where the front of the shot is blurry than the background, that's a awesome shot. 

I like this image because of how it's filmed, the way in how it's silhouette is awesome, I would use this in my film if I was filming something to do with family at home.

I like this image because of how the shot is taken, where one thing is in focus than the rest, so the directer wanted to get across the idea that the photos in the middle are important? But that's just what I think.

Day Dreaming It, Lost in the Alp's

This film is about a guy, who experience the time of his life in such a short time in the wintry Italian alps of Friuli Venezia Giulia. He was set a pond his journey to what lies ahead, meeting strangers after strangers but the most awesomest people he has ever found. They take him on a wonderful journey, so he put this altogether.

Theme: Mostly images outside in the snow which is cool, landscapes of around Italy. Mostly awesome scenery of mountains, lakes, houses, cliffs, cities, beaches, the town areas.

Structure: This is a character based video of a man named Matty Brown who takes footage of the wintry Italian alps of Friuli Venezia Giulia. Most shots were close ups of clocks meaning time, the shots were pretty much back and forth with areas of mountains and then back to close ups of the inside of the clock where it rotates (to be honest I don't know what it's called but it's the image below)  

What I like about this video is that at 00:00-02:31- 00:00-03:35 this is where the beat kicks in and the music is up beating, he makes the footage so fast to make it go with the music, another one is at

00:00-04:25 to the end is all footage of landscapes of where he's been. In how he put it all together was awesome.

I like this screenshot I did because it's so radiant and I like these sceneries.

My Memory Video

 I chose to do this as my memory because he's getting rid of the car and he's had it for 5years at least. I put my ISO on 200 and left my shutter at 50, the aperture was on 5.6, I wanted to play around with the focusing ring to get one in focus then the other. I put some close ups in there, heaps of images to fill in the gaps because i didn't have enough footage to put in the video but this seemed pretty short and sweet. The lighting was alright in some vids I filmed. I didn't really ask him to film his car, I just did it. I think it would of been better to have filmed it at a park, or somewhere open. 

Music: Schoolboy Q - Collard Greens instrumental

I chose this song because this was the first song that he always played on the stereo in the car. I thought it suited the car to be honest.

Notes

ISO:

Controls sensitivity to light.

The best time to use high ISO is in the dark as for the brighter situations, lower ISO is the best.

The lower the ISO the clearer the image, better quality.

The higher the ISO the more sensitive, noisier the image. 

Shutter: 

Slow shutter speed allows more light into the camera sensor and are used for low light and night photography as for fast shutter speeds help to freeze motion.

 Shutter speed is mainly changed for photography but filming is 1/50

Aperture:

Aperture, f/stop (Fraction)

Aperture is an opening hole, space which let's light in depending how big or small the hole is. It controls how much light passes in.

The aperture controls your focus, Depth of field (D.O.F)

The lower the f/stop the bigger the hole, more light, blurry

The higher the f/stop the smaller the hole, less light, less blurry.

This video is just filmed in the garage, changing focus from the fridge to what's in front of the camera which is my book. I put my aperture on f/2.0 so it would be a bit bright in the garage because it was slightly dim. I was pretty much just playing with the  focusing ring to make this film short and sweet.

Aperture: f/5.6

This video I filmed of my brother's car from the garage, I was playing with the focusing ring to get his car on focus but in using an ISO of 250, it seems pretty bright still.

The last video is just filming in garage with the bmx bike, once again playing with the focusing ring from the tire to the whole bodykit.

What differences do you notice in the videos?

I took the sound out of all the films I did and I had to cut them to make it short but every film was different towards the sound. The brightness of each film was very different from each other, especially video one to the others in how dim it is.

Constellation Quilt

Emily Fischer

Born and raised in rural Wisconsin, known as a fabric designer and has her own business in Haptic Lab. (Haptic refers to to the scene of touch.)

The SoftMaps quilt project began in 2002 where Emily was inspired by her mother who was diagnosed with glaucoma.

Theme: The video was taken just around where workshop or studio is, scenes in her studio making her quilt and even her walking on the streets, maybe around where she stays? Scenery on the rooftop of the building laying out the quilt she made.

Structure: This is like a character based video, where it's like she's telling her story in what she does in life or her up bringing. Most shots were of Emily always doing something with her hands, very close up films, then wide-shots when she's outside of her studio with her quilt. The video-maker makes the quilt the main focus of the film.

What I like about this video is that it's short and sweet (01.57minutes) Good film to watch, the thing I didn't like was the film in between 00:00-00:30 to 00:00-00:47, it looked weird having that put in with the rest of the whole video, it just looked off.

This image is a wide mid-shot of her studio where all the magic happens, as you can see her facing her back to the camera while she's do her work.

This image is a close up of her fingers and a felt pen that she's using to draw her work, the depth of field is shallow because the background is slightly blurry. It's more focused on what she doing with the felt tip, which is pretty cool.

In this image is pretty much the quilt in one picture, wide mid-shot, good filming.
